Baklawa-squad

Baklawa Squad is a rap group from Gothenburg (Sweden). The members of the group are the two cousins, Ody (Omid Gh.) and Maxell (Farid Kh.).


They became a group for a music contest called Göteborgs Talangen. They had been rapping separately for a while but for this contest they joined forces and came up with the idea of making a duo/group.

But for the sign up they panicked, because their group had no name. They pondered for a long while with no success of coming up with a good name. Suddenly Maxell´s mom entered the room with Chai and the Middle Eastern cookie named Baklawa.

At that moment Maxell shouted out: BAKLAWA SQUAD. Before this event, Maxell and his friend Foolish had been joking around with the name but at that point Maxell made it happen.

After this, the name for the new group was decided. It was a good name, since it pointed out the their heritage (Middle Eastern) and that they're sweet guys with sweet HIP-HOP music. Baklawa Squad began doing music as a group in spring-05, starting their carrier by winning the Göteborgs Talangen 2005 Rap Category.
